Tides Reach

ides Reach was originally 4 brick and flint cottages dating from the eighteenth century, built by a local ship owner for his best sea captains. The cottages have now been connected into one, creating a wonderfully comfortable home, retaining the charm of the traditional cottage appearance. We lived there ourselves until recently, when we converted our boat building workshops into a home for ourselves next door.

We are always on hand should you have any questions or requests.

The front door opens into the spacious kitchen/dining room and you will immediately feel ‘at home’. The AGA keeps this room wonderfully snug and the combination of oiled wood worktops, hand built kitchen units, butlers sink and tiled floor create a welcoming atmosphere. Well equipped kitchenAdd to this the large open fire at one end and a pine dining table, which can be increased in size for Christmas and larger parties, and you have a perfect family room.

At one end of the kitchen a door leads into the main sitting room with comfortable sofas, TV (Freeview), DVD/CD player, etc, and this in turn leads into a sunny conservatory (modest in size, but the perfect place to escape with a book and a glass of wine!).

At the other end of the kitchen a door leads into the second sitting room with TV (Freeview), DVD/CD player, games, table football and downstairs wc. Off this room is the utility room with clothes washer/dryer and plenty of hooks and shelving for all your walking, beaching, biking kit. This room serves as a porch in winter.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms, one with polished original floorboards, basin and large linen press and both with the original fireplaces (not in use), and built-in wardrobes, one twin room and one single, again each with fireplace and built-in wardrobe. All the bedrooms look out over the garden and Sitting room - Tides Reachall have views of the sea. Most of the rooms have space for a travel cot.

The main family bathroom is a good size with wc, towel rail and basin and the shower room (in a gorgeous deep blue) also has a wc and basin.

Up another set of stairs is a wonderful attic bedroom that is just so irresistible to children we have rather assumed it will be theirs! There are two low single beds and space for another camp bed if necessary (please ask if you require this). There are two dormer windows which make this room feel light and airy, despite the restricted head room (full standing headroom for an adult down the centreline only but plenty for children!).

The garden is completely enclosed and private, surrounded by high fences and walls. There is a large, sunny flagstone patio with good quality garden furniture for outside dining.

This cottage is particularly suitable for families with children due to the direct marsh access and large meadow. We have provided buckets and spades, ‘boogie boards’ and crab lines for guests’ use and are always happy to offer advice about tide times, boat trips, sailing lessons, bike hire, etc (these can be arranged in advance if you would prefer).

ides Reach in Winter

We have never been able to decide whether we prefer Tides Reach in the summer with its obvious locational appeal or in the winter when, returning from a long brisk walk on a crisp frosty beach or marsh you return to a roaring fire in the kitchen which begs to toast your crumpets and warm your toes! The wood burner in the sitting room transforms a bleak evening and the AGA provides continuous warmth at the other end of the kitchen
